About Plating/Chemical conversion treatment
Plating and chemical conversion treatment is a general term for surface treatment technologies that form a thin film on the surface of metallic and non-metallic materials to impart functionality and aesthetic appeal. The main objectives include improving rust prevention and corrosion resistance, imparting wear resistance, imparting conductivity and insulation, and enhancing decorative properties, among many others. As for typical processing methods, plating includes electroplating (e.g., nickel, chromium, zinc) and electroless plating, which involve the reductive deposition of metal ions. On the other hand, chemical conversion treatment includes phosphating, chromating, and anodizing (anodic oxidation), which chemically alter the material surface to form a stable film. These technologies play an indispensable role in improving product reliability and performance in a wide range of industrial fields such as automotive parts, electronic devices, building materials, and precision machinery.
