Waterjet processing is a non-contact, non-thermal processing method that ejects water (pure water or abrasive-mixed water) pressurized to ultra-high pressure from a fine nozzle, using its kinetic energy to cut, drill, and surface-treat materials. Its greatest feature is the minimal heat affected zone and mechanical stress, which suppresses material degradation and deformation. Abrasive waterjet, which mixes abrasives, is used for precision processing of hard and brittle materials such as metals, ceramics, composites, and stone, as well as thick plates, while pure waterjet is suitable for soft materials such as rubber, plastics, food, and textiles. It produces minimal burrs, allows for complex shape processing, and is utilized in various industries where high-quality processing is required, such as aerospace, automotive, and medical fields. Low environmental impact is also an advantage.
