When should you choose hot forging over casting?
Forging (hot forging), which DISOCO specializes in, is the optimal processing method for mechanical parts requiring high strength and high precision. Here, we will clearly explain the differences between "casting" and "hot forging."
■ Overview
In the manufacturing of mechanical parts, the choice between casting and hot forging significantly impacts product quality, cost, and durability.
While casting is suitable for complex shapes and mass production, hot forging is ideal for parts requiring high mechanical strength, load-bearing capacity, and dimensional accuracy.
DISOCO has an annual forging capacity of 11,700 tons and performs hot forging using 400-1600 ton presses.
Our main clients include many FDI companies such as Honda and Piaggio.
■ Cases where forging should be chosen over casting
Parts requiring high strength and high durability: Crankshafts, connecting rods, drive shafts, etc. Forging densifies the metal structure, reducing internal defects.
Parts requiring high rotation and safety: Drivetrain, brake, steering systems, etc.
When high precision and high dimensional stability are required: Closed-die forging suppresses shape errors, ensuring concentricity and straightness, especially for rotating parts like shafts and gears.
■ Examples of DISOCO's Hot Forging Technology
Crankshafts for motorcycles: Millions produced annually. Technology transfer from Gohsyu, Japan.
Drive gear Z49, A-arms, link rods: Materials SCM, S45C, S35C.
Connecting rods, joint shafts: Forged using S20CR and S48C materials with 1000T-1600T presses.
■ DISOCO's Strengths: Achieving Both High Quality and High Productivity
At DISOCO, in addition to 1000-1600 ton forging presses, we have introduced induction heating systems and automatic inspection equipment.
We achieve mass production of millions of units annually with stable, repeatable precision within ±0.05mm.
We provide forging solutions that meet OEM quality standards for companies such as Honda, Piaggio, and Schaeffler.
✅ For high-precision, high-durability mechanical parts manufacturing through hot forging, trust DISOCO.
