Gravity casting (also known as gravity die casting) is a casting method in which molten metal is poured into a metal mold solely by gravity and allowed to solidify. Because the mold can be reused repeatedly, it offers superior dimensional accuracy and surface finish compared to sand casting, and is characterized by high productivity. Since it is filled under relatively low pressure, it may not be suitable for complex shapes or thin-walled parts, but it has the advantage of producing products with high internal quality and excellent mechanical properties. Mainly aluminum alloys, copper alloys, and zinc alloys are used, and it is widely utilized in the manufacturing of functional parts produced in medium to large quantities, such as automotive engine parts, suspension parts, pump casings, and electrical equipment components. Although mold costs are required as an initial investment, the cycle time is short, and it offers excellent cost performance during mass production.
