Plaster casting is a precision casting method that uses a mold material primarily composed of plaster. This method is characterized by excellent dimensional accuracy and an extremely good surface finish, making it suitable for manufacturing castings with complex shapes and fine details. Molds are produced by pouring plaster slurry into a master pattern and allowing it to harden, thereby achieving high reproducibility. However, due to plaster's low heat resistance, it is limited to casting low melting point alloys such as aluminum alloys, zinc alloys, and copper alloys. It is primarily utilized in the manufacturing of prototypes, small-batch production items, and components requiring high design quality, such as automotive parts, aircraft parts, medical devices, and artistic crafts. The mold is an expendable type and is destroyed after a single casting.
