About Deburring
Deburring is the process of removing unwanted protrusions (burrs) that occur during manufacturing processes such as cutting, pressing, and casting. Its purpose is to improve product quality, ensure functionality, enhance safety, and prevent defects in subsequent processes. Because burrs can cause poor fit, damage due to stress concentration, worker injuries, and cosmetic defects, their removal is extremely important in manufacturing. Typical deburring methods include mechanical deburring using brushes or grinding wheels; chemical deburring by electrolytic polishing or chemical polishing; thermal deburring such as Thermal Energy Method (TEM); physical deburring by waterjet or blasting; barrel finishing; and vibratory finishing. The optimal method is selected depending on the material and shape of the part, the size of the burrs, and the required precision. It is an indispensable process for products requiring high reliability, such as precision parts, medical devices, and automotive components, and the introduction of automation technology is also progressing.
