About Electrical discharge machine
Electrical discharge machining (EDM) is a machining method that utilizes thermal energy generated by electrical discharge phenomena occurring between an electrode and a workpiece to remove conductive materials without contact. Machining is possible regardless of the workpiece hardness, and it is particularly effective for precision machining of cemented carbides, high-hardness steels, and difficult-to-machine materials. Representative methods include die-sinking EDM, which transfers the electrode shape, and wire EDM, which cuts with a wire electrode. It is widely used in fields such as mold manufacturing (press, injection molding), aerospace components, and medical device parts, where complex shapes and fine machining are required. It is performed in a dielectric fluid, and another characteristic is that the management of the heat-affected zone directly impacts quality.
