About Profile milling
Tracer milling is a machining method where a probe traces the three-dimensional shape of a master model (original), and that movement is mechanically or electrically linked to a cutting tool to machine a workpiece. Its greatest feature is the ability to reproduce parts with complex or free-form curved surfaces extremely faithfully to the shape of the master model. Its main applications include the production of press dies, casting molds, aircraft and automobile parts, and prototypes. Even in the modern era where NC machining has become widespread, it is still utilized as an effective machining method due to its high reproducibility and efficiency, particularly in cases where a master model exists or in fields such as arts and crafts where CAD data conversion is difficult.
