About Thread-cutting
Threading is a machining technique that forms helical grooves (threads) on the surface of parts. It is primarily used to impart functions such as fastening parts, transmitting motion, and positioning, and its characteristic feature is enabling high fastening strength and precise position adjustment. Representative machining methods include cutting and thread rolling. In cutting, threads are formed by cutting away material with tools such as single-point cutting tools, taps, and dies, using lathes, milling machines, or dedicated threading machines. On the other hand, thread rolling is a type of plastic working where threads are formed by plastically deforming the material using a thread rolling machine. Rolled threads have the characteristic of superior strength and surface finish compared to cut threads, because the material's grain is not cut. These machining methods are appropriately selected depending on the type of material, thread precision, and production volume.
