Carburizable Material for Machine Parts.

The SM-5 catalog details a machine part material, equivalent to the former JIS SMF5030 standard, widely used for mechanical structural components. It is compatible with post-treatments like steam treatment, carburizing, and tempering. Its composition includes Fe (balance), Cu (≤3 wt%), Ni (1-5 wt%), C (≤1 wt%), and other elements (≤3 wt%). Mechanical properties feature a density of ≥6.5 g/cm³, hardness of ≥120 HV, tensile strength of ≥400 MPa, yield strength of ≥300 MPa, Young's Modulus of 90 GPa, elongation of ≥1.0%, and an impact value of ≥10 J. Carburizing, a heat treatment forming a hardened surface layer via carbon diffusion, is a key application, significantly improving hardness and wear resistance.
