Rapid Prototyping (RP) machines are a general term for devices that directly form three-dimensional objects by layering materials based on 3D CAD data. Generally called 3D printers, they enable the production of prototypes and functional parts in a short period and at low cost. Key methods include Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM), Stereolithography (SLA), Selective Laser Sintering (SLS), and Multi Jet Fusion (MJF), among others, and the materials used range widely from resins to metals. They are utilized in a wide range of applications, from the initial stages of product development to final product manufacturing, including design verification, design confirmation, jig and fixture production, and small-batch, high-mix production, significantly contributing to shortening development periods and reducing costs.
